ACON pleasures the senses

ACON pleasures the senses

Before taking an adventure into the wonderland that is the Mardi Gras after party, ACON wants you to take heed of its latest comic book inspired health campaign, The Adventures in Pleasure.

For the next six weeks, ACON will be running a highly visual campaign to encourage people to enjoy their adventures in pleasure this Mardi Gras in a safe way.

The aim of this campaign is to help people understand that an important part of enjoying any experience is caring about the health and welfare of yourself and others, ACON CEO Stevie Clayton said.

Mardi Gras is all about being a bit adventurous and seeking out pleasurable experiences, whether they be community, social or sexual activities.

It’s called a culture of care, which is essentially about looking out for each other, whether it be in relation to HIV, sexual health, street safety or alcohol and drugs.

Reminding people of this message will be a host of forties, noir-esque characters including Buck Ramjoy, an intrepid adventurer on his way to the Shrine of Sodom. While Fanny Diva goes on a journey to discover the secret of the invisible itch.

It’s all very tongue in cheek and we’re hoping that locals and visitors will also get into the spirit and enjoy their adventure in pleasure while keeping themselves and others out of harms way, Clayton said.

  1. This is entertaining, keep it up boys.

By the way, Shayne Chester (and I have no idea who he is) sounds like a decent bloke to me. The rest of you sound envious of him.

  2. Michael: ” I haven’t even heard of you, mate. And by the sounds of it, you need a little less ego, a bit more humility”

Michael, mate – has anyone heard of YOU? By the sounds of it, you need a little substance (the non-chemical type) to inject into your comments.

Micheal: “your only two supporters on here are anonymous too: Ron and Col…..”

…And how many ‘suporters’ do you have on here? NONE!

  3. Shayne Chester is spot on.
I like a posting that resembles a machine gun bullet firing across the bough of a deadwood mentality posting annonymous and meaningless rubbish on this forum.
    Good morning to you Micheal.

  4. The term trolling, Michael, is derived from the fishing technique of slowly dragging a bait through water. It refers to someone who posts inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community. The topic of this discussion, Michael, is the alleged incompetence and corruption at Commonwealth Street. It’s not about your fellow correspondents. It’s not about me.

Trolling relies on anonymity. People will say things in anonymous forums that they’d never dare say to someone’s face. Another cause of trolling is incompetence. If you disagree it’s easier to bitch than to figure out exactly what you disagree with. Trolling is a lot like graffiti, which happens at the intersection of ambition and incompetence: people want to make their mark on the world, and have no other way to do it.

Then there’s the matter of agenda, the same ‘voices’ that regularly appear to defend the fucktards of our community, while never declaring their interest.

  5. “forum trolls” = bitchy.

As for “anonymous”, let it be stated that your only two supporters on here are anonymous too: “Ron” and “Col”. However, I have more decency than to call them “trolls”.

But then again, that’s just you being bitchy again isn’t it?

  6. Good for you Shayne. You are a true hero in our community, as more and more people are realizing by the day what ACON really stands for; i.e. themselves! shame it takes so long for people to come around to the truth, but the truth will always out in the end. Bravo!

  7. So Michael, I ‘use community for self promotion’ but you’ve ‘never heard of me’; and pointing out that I do more than ‘bitch and whinge’ shows a ‘lack of humility’. Suddenly I remember why I gave up debating anonymous forum trolls long ago. Engaging no-name critics with undeclared agendas who make little sense anyway is pointless.

Read the orgs’. financial statement to see where the money really goes , then talk about ‘heart and soul’.

  8. Hehe. Take two seconds to read bitchy comments above. My point exactly.

I particularly liked Shayne’s self-portrayal above as a saviour to all. I haven’t even heard of you, mate. And by the sounds of it, you need a little less ego, a bit more humility. People don’t do COMMUNITY service for self promotion. Your comments are a shameful demonstration of the divisive, self-interested bitchy and whiney attitude I refer to above.

  9. …or to be more precise, Brendan, “yet nother of your characteristic attempts to PUBLICLY ingratiate yourself with the -˜establishment’ that you’ve been unsuccessfully pushing to penetrate for years now.

  10. Au contraire, Brendan, Shayne may criticise, but your backing up some pathetic -˜in crowd’ defense distortion of this into his -˜whining and bitching’ is merely yet ANOTHER of your characteristic attempts to ingratiate yourself with the -˜establishment’ that you’ve been unsuccessfully pushing to penetrate for years now. At least Shayne has something valid to say, whereas all you have ever done is bitch and stab at anyone speaking with an original voice and showing an ounce more intellect than yourself. I agree with Shayne and reject the malicious misinterpretation and attempts of invalidation displayed by those calling his excellent points -˜whining and bitching’. Remember: Shayne doesn’t have a vested interest in pursuing his side of such debates, he speaks for those who are not a part of the AIDS Inc cash cow. He isn’t collecting a government funded payout to say what he says -“ his opponents, on the other hand…

  11. I’m always flattered by the way you follow me from forum to forum, Brendan, shaking your virtual pom-poms. However I doubt that the 360 poz renters or the many who chose another drug after becoming educated about the realities of crystal meth or the 12,000 that you’re so quick to scuttle would see any of my efforts as mere ‘vendettas’. Where there’s an issue I battle it, I remain equanimated to the parties involved. That’s politics. Ps. you might like to check ‘conflationary’ – it doesn’t exist. Many thanks and all the best.

  12. Au contraire, Shayne: you ARE quick to criticise, bitch and whine. You know you are. Why shy away from it, given that at times you do make a good point regardless?

Even if other times it sounds like the same old vendettas and conflationary generalisations of the past (the prime motivation for which you have disclosed above).

Be honest and own it, man. Warts & all.

  13. Au contraire, Michael.

Six years ago I was fighting the DoH revoking of the private rental subsidy which would have seen 360 poz renters lose their homes and be shipped into those HIV-phobic estates, like the suicide towers. acon called it secure housing. We won the lobby. acon took the credit.

A couple of years ago, I ran a lobby at my own expense to educate on the true dangers of crystal meth, while acon said it was just another party drug. Won that lobby, the hard-hitting ads are everywhere now.

And currently, I’m trying to find some help for the 12,000 ‘welfare gays’ who stand to lose their benefits in July…while acon faffs about with ‘Buck Ramjoy, the Shrine of Sodom, Fanny Diva… ‘

I’ve spent 20 years in community service, despite being sacked by acon for criticising them and I continue to do so.

  14. There are some out there who put their heart and souls into trying to keep everyone safe in a positive way.

Then there are others like Shayne who are quick to criticise, bitch and whine.
