Alien dating concept
Melbourne’s gay and lesbian geeks are getting a chance to unite — and maybe even find love — as Sci-Fi Speed Dating takes off during the Midsumma Festival with a night filled with social sci-fi singles and geeky giveaways.
The night, designed for those looking for love, laughs, mates or dates, was created as a remedy to the advent of iPhone apps and cyber chats and is hosted by cabaret comedian Dean Arcuri. He’ll be on hand to break the ice and get participants geared up for a night of sexy socialising.
The spotlight has recently been turned on the sci-fi-loving members of the GLBTI community with the most notable project being Outland, a new queer comedy show written by Adam Richard, set to debut on the ABC this year.
The show, starring Richard, Paul Ireland, Christine Anu and Ben Gerrard, orbits around a gay science-fiction fan club and the lives, loves and neverending dramas of its members.
The six-part series has recently wrapped up production in Melbourne.
Sci-Fi Speed Dating is a gay and lesbian event and is being held at Neverwhere, Collingwood on Wednesday, February 2 from 7.30pm-9pm. Entry is $18.
