Locals among Best of the Bears
Popular online bear hangout The Complete Bear has announced the winners of its publicly-voted ‘2010 Best of the Bears’ competition, with a smattering of locals taking out prizes in amongst the big American bear events.
The Star Observer’s publisher Scott Abrahams took out the coveted Bear of the Year award, while the furry trio from Sydney podcast Bears in the City walked away with the Best Bear Blog/Podcast honour – a testament to the loyal international audience the show has amassed over the past four years.
DJ George Roussos, popular amongst Sydney and Melbourne clubbers, was named Best Bear Perfomer, while Victoria’s Grampians Retreat was crowned Best Bear Accommodation, proving bears still like to have fun in the woods.
Further afield from Australia, it seems that many voters had strong ties to the US bear community, with Boston’s The Alley named Best Bear Bar – just two votes ahead of the Laird Hotel – and Provincetown Bear Week awarded Best Bear Run.
Best Bear Website went to Bearbook.com, and porn lovers awarded BearFilms, BearCity and Jim ‘Gagbear’ Growwl the best porn site, best video and best porn star gongs respectively.
Porn star and actor Joe Mannettii was named Best Bear Fundraiser, while barber Cameron at Louie’s on the iconic Castro St in San Francisco took out the prize for Best Bear Business.
