Showgirls shine at DIVA

Showgirls shine at DIVA

My god! I think I have just proven to myself how stupid I am. Of course I will be able to write my article after DIVAs. I am sure I will be in a fit state to string a few words together. So here goes. I must apologise straight off the bat, a lot of last night is still a little bit of a blur, so some names of showgirls maybe unintentionally be left out.

Now to start I must mention Randwick Racecourse. Fabulous venue! However, because I’m a little lady, the stage was hard to see at times, and many showgirls found themselves standing to get a better view.

With a theme of All That Jazz you can imagine the shows were fabulous. Opening was a live spectacular, with Sydney’s songbird Cleo Coupe, the very sexy Phil Filo and my personal favourite DIVA, Shauna Jensen. With a splattering of fabbie Chicago-style showgirls, the whole room was soon buzzing with excitement.

The second show was our very own Australian Idol, Courtney Act, with I Want To Do It With Mogadonna. With showgirls such as Mitzi, Atlanta and of course Moggie, the girls put some rock into the evening. To Moggie’s delight, there was a guitar that had to be destroyed on stage; however, although she gave it her best shot, only minor damage was done.

The third show I have to admit was the best! Yes, this was the one that I was in, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Skipping my usual leading lady role, I took on the role of Mother Hen, the storyteller. With Vanity as the beautiful butterfly and Vida, Shelley and Amy as garden nymphs, the stage was soon filled with gorgeous half-naked boys and girls. How can you go wrong? (I wasn’t half-naked, by the way.)

From this stage on, the evening took on a glittery, sequined blur. I am told there was a great Sophie Monk show, a fab Les Girls show and a finale that saw Ashley Swift burning up the floor.

Now for someone who wasn’t actually going to attend this year, I must admit I had a hoot, though I do feel a little like the Bob Hope of drag. But hey, someone has to take up that role, and it may as well be me.

EYE SPY

On Monday night DIVA board member Colleen Windsor announced her retirement. Congratulations, Colleen, you have done a great job over the years you have worked with DIVA. I am sure we will see your head popping up now and again.

I must give a personal thank you to Shane Dunn, who helped me look beautiful for Monday night. Shane also had amazing creations worn by Claire de Lune and Verushka Darling. Thank you, Shane, you are truly amazing.

A special Happy Birthday must go out to Amelia Airhead-Smith. Celebrating her birthday on the night of DIVAs, she even had a cake presented to her at Arq’s Bitch Or Boast party. Unfortunately I was unable to try it … but if you still have some -¦

Each year I attempt to arrive in my limo of choice, the Maxi-Taxi. This year my dream did come true and I arrived in my bright orange chariot. So much room, I do recommend it to everyone.
