Spirit of spring

Spirit of spring

A stirring series of paintings has been dedicated to the Spring Migration festival.

Albury Aboriginal artist David Dunn (pictured, right) has created a series of works called Rainbow Spirit Dreaming especially developed around the festival.

Festival organiser Gary Hayward (left) said he was touched by the paintings and hopes to take the works to Melbourne for an exhibition and festival fundraiser next year.

“They’re amazing works — you get a real chill down your spine looking at them,” Hayward said.

  1. Ok, here i go again – any one who knows me will know and be able to tell you how much I (and many of my friends) LOVE Spring Migration. It is for many many reasons, and too many to go into everytime someone says something negatative. So im going to say one thing again. We are all human, we all have different interests and opinions, it is one of the things that makes us such a diverse community. However, we do not need to turn on one another everytime someone has a different opinion. Dave/Gaz/Peter who ever it is (doesnt really concern me.) it is ok that you did not like spring migration, it is ok that you disagree with me and others who had a great time there, but please stop knocking the festival publicaly as you are not doing the festival, yourself or our community any favours. Just DONT COME! then the problem is solved.
I love that we have a free world and freedom of expression, but do we really have to go back and forth like school children – he said she said crap! This is directed to no one and everyone – Grow up! The festival is what it is to those who love it and will do anything to see it continue. and TO those who it is not their cup of tea – have bloddy coffee and leave Spring Mirgation alone.

At the end of the day here is what is fact and that is all you can go on.
The festival is loved by many – FACT
The Festival has become a major event for North East Vic – FACT
The festival is well attended by those who enjoy it – FACT
The festival is wanted and needed in our community – FACT
The Festival Organisers who work hard all year round do not benifit from it Financially, to them it is soley personal satisfaction – FACT
The Festival has every year COST the organisers money – FACT
The Festival has made a positive difference in the lives of young gay and lesbains in rural Vic – FACT

I can go on all day if you like because they are known truths. So does it really matter that one man pretending to be three thinks that these are lies? No.
Can we please stop bashing our own for trying to do something for our community, if you want someone to put down then go find a gay hater, a politician that makes laws that discriminate against us, a religous leader that preachers that we are all evil. Use your energy where it is needed.

None of this back and forth does the Festival any favours –
To those who complain about Spring Migration – Dont come, and find something positive to do with your enjoy.
To those who support and enjoy Spring Migration – Tell all your friends and come to the next and future festivals. That is how we will secure the future of Spring Migration, Not through Childish banter back and fourth on the net where you can be heard but not stand up and be counted.
And if you have something to say – be pround and stand up for it – use your ‘real’ and Full name.
My Name is Cathy Prior and i live in Mansfield, Victoria, and i LOve Spring Migration, and i dont care if you dont.

  2. Thanks big dave big hugs to ya and thanks for the editors note,So Dave and Gaz use the same IP address, and now you know what im talking about. Thanks for the Info

  3. I hope Spring Migration goes forward but there are concerns here. You guys cannot expect our community to do a fundraiser when the funds go to a private business. You have to setup a Not for Profit and I think the tension will be eased.

It was a great Spring Migration last time, and much better then the previous one.

    Good luck in 210!

  4. Hi Gary,

My name is David and I am not of Davids you are going on about. I guess some people are upset with you and your event. Anyway nice painting!

Think before you speak next time mate. A lot of people are called David in these forums. Try not to piss all of them off at once.

You cannot use another name as the application checks your IP address. As an ex programmer I know this.

I hope you have a great Spring Migration next year.

    Cheers Mate,

    Big Dave

Editor’s Note: Actually Dave, another post using a different name has come for the same IP address. The name used was Gaz.

  5. gaz, aka, peter s.,aka bill, aka, david, elliot, casey all the same person that enjoys leaving his awfull comments on all spring migration forums in the press.

Spring Migration is for the GLBTI communities in the north east of victoria,to help get the latest information on all issues that confront our community

This years Spring Migration invited ”FAB bendigo,Hume pheonix albury wodonga,Gvpride shepparton,Contry Alliance network CAN,Way out youth project,ACON,ALSO,Gay and Lesbian councilling service and a host of others, they came and they informed our communities and we had a ball

As each year we make australian history,we are really proud of what we have acheived for our communities. There is no volunteer base,as everyone wants to party with the rest of us.So we pay people to do a job from the ticket sales,There is no profit made from spring migration, our sponsors and our own money, thousands of kilometers and hundreds of hours we donate to our community each year.

The sadness of same sex sucides in our area made us more passionate than ever to help the future GLBTI generations,GET INFORMED that help is a phone call away, and to keep up with the safe sex message

Aboriginal artist David Dunn has added his art to this history making event,

so gaz, aka, peter s.,aka bill, aka, david, elliot, casey all the same person, dont know why your asking about the fundraiser as you wont be here for it,our books are open to any one that would like to view them.

All of the rural communities are involved and eventually, spring migration will be run by them.At least we will be remembered in Australian Gay History,to make change for our communities and have the guts to do something, for our future generations. It has been the hardest job in our lives,

and people like gaz, aka, peter s.,aka bill, aka, david, elliot, casey all the same person
have done nothing for the rural gay communities

  6. gday Gaz aka david,if you came to spring migration this year, not everyone comes to the dance party.the 5 spring migrations have only broken even. This year all funds raised, went to the fire brigade to help with this years fire season, and the way out youth project. To help try and curb the same sex sucide rate

Now GAZ aka David This years spring migration that you never came to but like to keep leaving negative comments in the press.ALL OF THE COMMUNITY IS INVOLVED,If you came you would of seen that. Now to also help you understand as you seem to have no understanding of any thing, people that come to spring migration that spend 1,500 over the weekend, spend that money on accomodation, food ,shopping, petrol, buying property,The ticket sales for the party only just cover, entertainers fees, accomodation for the entertainers,P.A.and lighting, security, melb DJS,ADVERTISING,THE ORGANISERS OF SPRING MIGRATION,Havent made a profit from the festival. We have been the only two people that have ever had the guts to do anything like this in the north east of victoria, for our community..SO GAZ AKA DAVE its really sad that you keep getting everything so wrong and just keep leaving you unfoundered negative comments

  7. The paintings do look good. I hope they can be put up for auction.

Fundraiser for Spring Migration? According to reports I have read in the past years thousands have gone to spring migration and spent 1500 dollars each according to the organisers. I thought they would of made money if thousands attended.

Are they setting up a not for profit rather then the funds going to the organisors private company? I would like to donate to that if they do, as I think it would be more of a community event having a volunteer board that runs it.

    When is the fundraiser?
