Running into the party season

This Mardi Gras the Frontrunners will take the fun onto the pavement for the annual 5km fun run around Centennial Park on March 7.

It’s a serious event for some, but that shouldn’t deter anyone from taking part, Frontrunner trainer Wayne Morgan said. He assured Sydney Star Observer there would be walkers and plenty of laughs during the event.

It will be treated as a race, and if you win you’re similar to a club champion. However, it’s only a race for those really, really fast people who want it to be, he said, adding the competition was always fierce between the Melbourne and Sydney Frontrunner groups.

Last year Melbourne won, so the challenge this year from our president was that Sydney Frontrunners have to win.

Morgan anticipates a larger crowd than usual based on feedback from both locals and international visitors.

I think we might get about 80 people. We’ve had a great show of interest this year from people who are visiting and women, he said.

It’s open to everyone and it’s a great way to be introduced to Frontrunners and just get to come and meet a whole lot of gays and lesbians who like to run.

info: The fun run starts at the Paddington Gates, Centennial Park. March 7, 9am. It is a free event. Register on the day. For more on the Frontrunners go to www.frontrunners.org.
