Queers have a word

Melbourne queer bookstore Hares and Hyenas is pulling out all stops this Midsumma Festival with no less than 12 literary performance events during the annual queer cultural festival in January and February.

Highlights of Hares’ curated program include the autobiographical A Boy Who Played With Dolls by Canadian actor and comedian Daniel-Ryan Spaulding; a response to Oscar Wilde’s famous missive from behind bars De Profundis, performed by Warren Herbu (pictured); and evocative spoken word performer Urszula Dawkins who captures the wild and snowy landscapes of her experience.

Photographic and multimedia exhibitions will run through the festival, along with plenty of book launches.
