For love and art

Support the work of local artists and the fight for equal marriage rights at the same time by attending Cafe Lounge’s upcoming art auction on November 16.

The event, featuring over 15 original pieces donated by artists, will raise money for Cafe Lounge’s ongoing same-sex marriage rights campaign and their upcoming Mardi Gras float to promote the issue.

Cafe Lounge is a haven for artists and creative types across Sydney and Art@Lounge is a perfect vehicle for us to showcase up-and-coming artists and also send a political message, Lounge co-owner Cedric Sarret said.

The space in Surry Hills for the past few months has been holding GLBT events to bring like-minded people together to discuss lobbying options, including a petition which patrons can sign.

One collection of over 500 signatures has already been sent to the Senate standing committee on legal and constitutional affairs, though signatures continue to come through.

This is not an issue for the gay community -” it is about promoting inclusiveness and equality for the whole community and removing discrimination, Sarret said.

I firmly believe that a union between two people should not discriminate based on gender, and that the same rights, responsibilities and recognition should be offered to everyone.

info: Art@Lounge is on November 16 at Cafe Lounge, 277 Goulburn St, Surry Hills, at 5pm.
