Fran Drescher’s gay sitcom

Fran Drescher’s new sitcom Happily Divorced is based on her real-life relationship with her ex-husband, who came out two years after their divorce.

The popular comedienne, who is best remembered as Fran Fine in The Nanny, is still good friends with Peter Marc Jacobsen and even created her new show with him.

“He had already been living a gay life away from me after we divorced and he said, ‘I don’t want you to be shocked – I’m dating men,” she explains.

Not that it was a complete surprise.

“During our marriage he had told me he might be bisexual but he wanted to stay married,” the 53-year-old actress confides.

“By the time he told me, I had survived uterine cancer. Nothing could shake me.”

The revelation appears to have made their relationship stronger.

“All those years weren’t for nothing … we’re best friends”.
