Church opens doors to LGBTI couples
Queenscliff Uniting Church is inviting LGBTI people, singles and couples, to have their relationships blessed this month. The small beach side town is located in southern Victoria on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Minister Kerrie Lingham said the church was a safe place for gay and gender/sex diverse people. She said many people in the congregation had gay children or grandchildren and the church wanted to celebrate their love.
“Last year one gay couple talked about how they often cry at weddings because they felt excluded because their partnership was unrecognised,” Lingham said.
“At the blessing of relationships in 2012, they cried because they felt included – for the first time.”
A local artist will run sculpture workshops during the weekend, focusing on exploring relationships.
The Blessing of Relationships will be held on Sunday, January 20 at 10am.
