’78ers double their fun

’78ers double their fun

The ’78ers will sashay down Oxford St in style in this year’s Mardi Gras Parade, using a vintage double-decker bus as transport.

The bus has been provided to the ’78ers through the Hong Kong Bus Preservation Society in Sydney. It will be adorned with placards showing events, issues, and milestones from Sydney’s GLBTI community over the years, including the original 1978 Mardi Gras and pre-1978 organisations such as CAMP. The ’78ers theme for the march is ‘We’re Not Like Everybody Else’.

New Mardi Gras will also have a special friendly relaxation space in Hyde Park off College St for this year’s float entrants that should be a lot of fun.

Potential sponsors or anyone who’d like to make a donation to the ’78ers float can contact the group directly. People buying tickets to the Mardi Gras Party can also quote the PETS code ‘CHAPS’ when ordering, and NMG will donate some of the ticket proceeds back to the ’78ers float costs. Expenses for Mardi Gras will include fuel, a generator/sound system and lighting.

People wishing to attend the Parade and march with the ’78ers should send their name and contact details to [email protected] ahead of the March 5 parade date.
