Call to share the care

Members of the GLBTI community have been asked to dig deep in support of the Benevolent Society’s Fostering Young Lives program which places at-risk children with foster parents. One in five of the program’s foster parents is gay or lesbian.

Called Share the Care, the black-tie fundraiser will be held on July 2 in the Grand Ballroom of the Epping Club.

Foster parent Peta Symons said she organised the event because of a crisis in foster care in NSW. She said she hoped to raise $75,000, with all proceeds of the ticket sales going to the Benelovent Society.

”By giving yourself a night out at Share the Care, people can treat themselves to a great time while showing how much they care for the many young children in foster care,” Symons said.

Fostering Young Lives program manager Kathleen Clark said more than 16,000 children were in out-of-home care in NSW.

“That’s more than double the number there was 10 years ago,” Clark said.

“Foster carers perform a vital role in our community, providing safe and loving homes for these children when times are tough. Fostering Young Lives is extremely grateful for Share the Care’s support.”

2UE presenter Paul Murray will emcee the event. Entertainers include the Nyte Season band, comedian Darren Carr, and the Sister2Sister School of Singing. Wine is being supplied by the Warburn Estate.

Tickets are $120 and are all-inclusive.
