Queer MAC back

Almost a year after it was first promised, the Baillieu Government is calling for expressions of interest for a new ministerial advisory committee on LGBTI health and wellbeing.

The move has been made by Health and Ageing Minister David Davis and Mental Health Minister Mary Wooldridge (pictured).

“The committee is an exciting opportunity to contribute and provide ongoing advice to the ministers, and to the Victorian Department of Health, on health, ageing, mental health and drugs services issues affecting GLBTI Victorians,” a Health Department message said.

Victoria’s LGBTI community has been awaiting news of the ministerial advisory group since the Liberal Government was elected in 2010. The former Brumby Government had two LGBTI ministerial advisory committees in place in the areas of health and justice.

A chairperson and members will be appointed to the new committee on a voluntary basis until October 30 2014.

Health practitioners and researchers with specific expertise in LGBTI public health, mental health, and preventative health are being sought.

Applications close Friday, April 13 at 5pm.
