Stynes under fire for 1D gay tweet

Mix 106.5 radio co-host Yumi Stynes has come under fire for tweets she posted during Sunday nights performance of The Xfactor, whilst taking aim at the members of One Direction.

The mocking of One Direction quickly caught the the eye of ‘Directioner’ fans, causing outrage for the unfortunate stereotypical characterisations of the band members.

Here at the Star, we are still wondering which one Stynes thought would be the ‘Gay Kid’.

This is not the first time Stynes has spoken ‘inappropriately’ in the media. Back in 2012 while discussing a photo of Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith on Channel 10’s The Circle with veteran journalist George Negus, Stynes created a storm of controversy and was later forced to apologise.

“He’s going to dive down to the bottom of the pool to see if his brain is there,” Stynes commented about a photo of the war hero in a pool.

  1. I hope that if she’s come under fire for this comment, it hasn’t been from within the LGBT community.

  2. What “inappropriate” thing has she said? Why is wrong to wonder whether one of the 1D crew is gay? Also, there had been absolutely zilch negative reaction to her comments on twitter until News Limited ran their beat-up (deliberately trying to sick the 1D army onto Yumi to wallow in the ensuing hate).

As for the diving to the bottom of the pool comment- it was in response to her cohost saying he was the perfect man. Yumi was suggesting that someone who spent so much in the gym probably didn’t spend so much time in the library and that, therefore, he probably wasn’t her perfect man. Hardly front-page news. And yet for some reason…

Last year, Yumi MC’ed a charity event at the Laird to support those supporting gay men dying of AIDS. She’s done nothing to be ashamed of. Why is the Star Observor perpetuating the News Limited hate against her?
