Gay couples preferred over single mums

A study of attitudes by the Pew Research Centre has found that Americans disapprove more of single mothers than they do of gay and lesbian couples with kids.

Of 2691 Americans surveyed, only 43 percent considered an increase in same-sex couples having children to be “a bad thing” compared to 69 percent who thought of more single mothers as “a bad thing”.

An identical 43 percent said that an increase in non-married heterosexual couples having kids was “a bad thing”.

Those in the survey who said more gay couples having children was “a good thing” was 12 percent — higher than the 10 percent who said more unwed heterosexual couples having children was good and the 4 percent who said more single women having children was “a good thing”.

Most were indifferent about more same-sex couples and unwed heterosexual couples having kids while only 24 percent were indifferent about an increase in single mothers.
