Global LGBT census
Australians have been asked to take part in the first ever global ‘LGBT Census’, launched this month by a group of activists with the assistance of private funding.
The census, which will run until April 30, aims to examine topics where information is lacking or out of date, and provide greater clarity about the state of the LGBT community in 14 countries including Australia, Canada, England, India, Israel, Jamaica, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States.
Topics include demographics, quality of life, education, financial situation, professional life, employment, relationships and health.
The census is anonymous and takes between 10 and 15 minutes to complete. The data collected will be used to benefit LGBT organisations, causes and businesses that make positive contributions to the LGBT community.
The data may also be used to answer questions such as “Which city has the best quality of life for gays and lesbians?”, “What is the financial health of gays and lesbians from region to region?” and “Which cities are more conducive to starting a family or building a relationship?”
