Choir strengthens voice

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir is looking for recruits to join it onstage for a special World AIDS Day concert.
The choir hopes to at least double its numbers to 100 singers for the 1 December concert where it will perform two memorable classics of contemporary choral repertoire: John Tavener’s Svyati and Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aetema.
Choir spokesman Neil Hendry said new singers had until the end of this month to sign up, while more experienced singers could sign up in November.
“In the serene surrounds of Pitt St Uniting Church, we will create a musical experience that remembers our past with AIDS and re-affirms our commitment to a future without it,” he said.
“Be uplifted by the light of Lauridsen and moved by the power of Tavener.”
Hendry said those singers with little or no experience would rehearse every Thursday, with additional rehearsals on 21 October, 24 November and 1 December.
Experienced singers who are confident music readers can join the rehearsals on 24 November and 1 December.
Registration is $66 which includes scores and rehearsal costs. A $5 fee applies to other rehearsals. To register, email [email protected] or phone 9360 7439.
