DJ Dan Murphy can be found playing every Friday at the Imperial, Saturday and Monday mornings at Manacle, every second Sunday and fourth Thursday at Arq, plus occasionally at Stonewall and the Colombian (go to danmurphy.blogspot.com for more info). He gives us his top five dance tracks at the moment.

RELEASE (Original Club Mix)
Steve Smooth & JJ Flores feat. Delano

A little-known track in Oz that did big things on the US charts earlier this year. It’s an absolute stormer that builds and builds, drops out long enough to hear some instructions from a man with a very deep voice -“ Just close your eyes and put your hands to the sky, ’cause tonight all you gotta do is release! -“ then slams back in and goes hammer-and-tongs right to the end.

LEMON 2004 (Side A Club Mix)
Hoxton Whores vs. U2

Hoxton Whores have pinched the unusual vocals from this 1991 U2 song and created a thick, deep club track. This cut has a full, rich sound with a bass hook that repeats hypnotically all the way through. One of those instantly familiar tracks that’s great for surprising a dancefloor.

ROCKING MUSIC (Warren Clarke Mix)
Martin Solveig

Described as the sort of music Michael Jackson would be making if he had a decent record producer and a head full of marbles, the Warren Clarke Mix is a percussive slice of heaven. A stomping, big-room, floor-filling anthem.

TREATY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND
(Manny Lehman Mix) Sandy B vs. Yothu Yindi

One frosty morning in London after being out clubbing for far too many days and clinging to the weekend with all my might at a Monday day club, this track crept into the set and blew me away. The Yothu Yindi vocals sit perfectly over the original club anthem driven again by a bass line to die for.

BOOGIE 2NITE (Seamus Haji Mix)

Tweet originally released Boogie 2nite in 2002 and after being sampled by the Disco Darlings this has been reworked again by the brilliant Seamus Haji. Impeccable lyric interpretation and her not-too-camp backup singers are supported by some super-smooth production to create a track that’s wonderful in every way.
