WORLD IN MY EYES (Cicada Remix)

Depeche Mode

This is the new mix of the Mode’s classic electro track from 1990 by man of the moment Cicada, who has given it his grungy rock-flavoured feel. On the darker side of dance, this is late night material at its best and David Gahan’s haunting vocal is outstanding. This single is taken from the recent box set of Depeche Mode’s greatest hits.

SANDCASTLES

Sydenham and Ferrer

This is chugging-progressive-with-a-tribal-edge at its best. Great percussion, wicked bass line and a totally hypnotic feel. Beautiful African-style chants flow through this gorgeous track. There is also a second 12 version featuring a Peter Heller mix.

I’M EVERY WOMAN (2005 mix by Paul Goodyear)

Whitney Houston

I had to bring new life and drama to Whitney’s classic girl-twirl track and reproduced this for my opening number at this year’s Mardi Gras. I brought a new percussive feel with a darker edge to the mix and eliminated some of the original vocal. The tempo is now a little faster than the original. Whitney, please come back with new fabulous songs.

INTO THE FIRE (Cicada Remix)

13 Senses

This beautiful record is also remixed by Cicada and has his trademark guitars throughout the track. Haunting piano and a lovely male vocal are the standouts for me. Very 80s in sound, this has restored my faith in dance music at the moment.

THE RACE 2005

Yello

A new mix by very talented German duo Yello. These guys have been making their quirky brand of electro since the late 70s, and you may remember this song from 1988. It featured a male commentator going on about the race, and car sounds pan throughout this mix.

The original had outstanding percussion and this new mix jacks up the tempo. I have only had this for a week and it looks like it’s gonna be in my box for some time.
