Golden oldies

I am feeling very old at the moment. I’m not sure if it is my birthday rising at the tail end of next week or the influx of 18 and 19-year-olds that seem to want to come over and say hello.

I always promised myself I would get into the future and try not to dwell on the past too much. But as you get older you seem to fall into the well, in my day routine.

We’ve all heard it before and usually roll our eyes and try not to laugh. In my day we used to put our make-up on by the light of candles and use charcoal as eye liner. You know the crazy shit I am talking about.

Well one thing that seems to be rearing its old head around town is the impromptu spot number. I remember many years ago it was the first thing you were asked if you entered a venue dressed up like a pretty lady.

Did you bring a CD? Or go to the DJ and organise a track.

I have to say I loved it. I remember many times seeing Mogadonna dancing up a storm in the middle of the stage to The Boss by Diana Ross.

It added so much atmosphere. Patrons were happy to see an unplanned number out of the blue and hotel owners loved getting a free performance.

So a recent Friday night at Stonewall Hotel was an absolute delight. The fabulous Penny Tration jumped up out of the blue and did Walk Away Lover. The crowd went wild.

Fuchsia Star is another showgirl around town gracing a stage whenever she feels the creative urge.

And I recently heard that double trouble Vanity Faire and Dallas Della Force whipped the Stonewall crowd into a frenzy a few Saturday nights with a Cher and Tina duet.

So I guess sometimes the old ways are the best ways. Let’s start taking out CDs wherever we go and bring on more unplanned spot numbers.

Message from Ms de Lune: All done-up showgirls who visit Slide on a Sunday will drink champagne for free all night long. Wow, what can you say to that?

Talking of Slide, I will be doing my first pole dancing show there this Friday night at 7pm, then again on Sunday night at 10pm. So if you have always fancied me swinging on your pole, pop in and have a look at my technique.
