Gonorrhoea is a bacterial infection that lives in the dick, arse or throat.
Some popular misconceptions about gonorrhoea are:
• If you have a sexually transmissible infection (STI) such as gonorrhoea you will know. Wrong: gonorrhoea of the dick usually gives symptoms, but most guys wouldn’t know if they had gonorrhoea of the arse or throat, so you need to get a test.
• Having gonorrhoea is not curable. This is totally wrong: gonorrhoea is easily treatable. It’s important to treat an infection early to avoid further transmission and also avoid the development of more serious symptoms.
• Gonorrhoea is something that only guys who have lots of sex get. Not true: all it takes is one guy. Most guys who have an STI don’t even know that they have it, so always use condoms with your casual sexual partners.
The most important thing is to get a sexual health check at least yearly.
