Priscilla kicks off Sleaze weekend

This year’s Sleaze Ball weekend is being kicked off in the highest of glittered stiletto heels with the special ACON preview gala performance of the new stage musical, Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert.

The preview performance and gala after-party are on Friday 29 September at Star City, the night before the Sleaze Ball party.

Tickets for the preview are limited to 2,000, with more than half already sold. With only three weeks until the event, and with Sleaze Ball fever already in the air, ACON’s events and fundraising manager, David Wilkins, believes tickets will continue selling fast.

This will be a unique event as Priscilla means so much to so many people in our community, Wilkins says. It is rare to be given the opportunity to pack a theatre out full of poofs and dykes to watch an iconic story about our city come to the stage. We will all be able to share this together.

After the performance in the Lyric Theatre, proceedings will move to the other end of Star City into the Showroom where the gala party will be held.

Wine and champagne, courtesy of Binbadgen Wines, will greet partygoers on arrival at the Showroom. The party will be hosted by drag goddess Mitzi Macintosh with DIVA winner for Most Popular DJ, Dan Murphy, playing tracks in the same style as the songs of the Priscilla soundtrack.

DIVA winners Shauna Jensen and Cleopatra Coup?ill also perform at the Priscilla party, with cast members of the musical, go-go boys and other drag royalty also featured throughout the night.

The Showroom will be cleared so we can have a giant dancefloor, Wilkins explains. There will be lots of drop curtains and mirror balls, and the music will be deliriously happy, with reference to the music of the movie.

If the crowd wants doof doof, they will get it the next night at Sleaze Ball, but this party will be about fun with what the music and the mood of Priscilla mean to all of us.
