Presidential contender: ‘Gay is a choice’

US Republican presidential contender Herman Cain has taken to American talk show The View to tout his conservative credentials, restating his belief that being gay is ‘a choice’.

A frontrunner in many of the latest Republican polls, Cain was asked by co-host Joy Behar how he could think being gay is a choice when so many people are vilified for it?

“You show me the science that says that it’s not… right now it’s my opinion against the opinion of others who feel differently. That’s just a difference of opinion,” Cain said.

A former chairman and CEO of fast-food chain Godfather’s Pizza, as well as an associate Baptist minister, Cain also repeated his intention to reinstate military policy ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ (DADT), and reaffirmed his opposition to abortion, even in cases of rape.

  1. I know several people who are gay, for them the only choice was whether to live a lie and pretend to be straight or be honest with themselves and others and say they were gay. That is the choice gay people make and it is a choice they should never have to make.

But if its a choice so what? We choose what team we support, what religion we follow, what Political party we choose and so on. We aren’t denied rights based on those choices. Choice is a smokescreen, what they mean is “its unnatural”.

But it isn’t unnatural either. Buteven if it was then the people who say so are hypocrits. How do i know this? because unless they never use a car or any other form of vehicle transportation, catch kill and prepare all their own food and do a thousand and one other things which we do which is actually unnatural but for which we are not subject to sanction, then they stand on a double standard.

  2. Yeah i think in my very faulted logic his right, NOT voting for him is a choice, I mean required.

The problem isn’t that being gay or no is a choice.. Its that being gay should be seen as plain everyday normal as it damn well is.

Bigots and homophobes need an education, Its a choice to be both those things? Should we sink so low as to harass you for not being gay?

  3. and…so what it if it is a choice anyway!!! thats no justification for being vilified and abused….not a very Christian attitude from a minister

  4. I would worry too much about him – with an attitude like this there is no way he will become president

  5. Saying that being gay is a “choice” gives homophobes and bigots all the reason that their feeble little minds need to justify their hatred of gay people. Pathetic. Wy is it that heteros are such experts on homos? They know NOTHING, its laughable!

  6. Herman Cain thinks gay is a “choice”, disapproves of abortion even for rape victims, and would reinstate ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’, yet claims his personal views would not influence how he would govern as President? BULLSHIT.
