Get set, get Wett

The Wett Ones Swimming Club, the largest LGBT swim club in Australia, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a packed event calendar leading up to the Asia Pacific Outgames, where 28 of its members will compete.

The club welcomes swimmers of all sorts, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or age, and provides training sessions at two different swim venues on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and even Sundays as well as offering club members several social activities throughout the year.

If you’d like to dip your feet in the water and give the Wett Ones a try, head to the upcoming Mardi Gras session at the iconic Boy Charlton Pool on the morning of Saturday, February 26. Locals and visitors alike can participate in a shortened version of the swim squad’s regular training sessions, followed by a more relaxed, social session in the pool.

Coaches will be on deck, with club members in the water to lead the way. After the event, join the team at the upstairs cafe for a coffee and brekkie or just stay and enjoy a few more hours at one of the world’s best outdoor pools.

Bring swimmers, a pair of goggles, the cost of pool entry (adult $5.60, concession $4.20) and a desire to swim some laps.

If you can’t make it along on February 26, keep in mind that Wett Ones offer up to free three trial training sessions so prospective members can get a feel for the club.
