Fancy a Minogue mango for summer?

If Aussie pop princess Kylie Mingoue’s claim to being queen of the fruits wasn’t apparent enough, a Northern Territory minister wants to seal the deal by naming a new variety of mango after her.

NT Primary Industry Minister Kon Vatskalis said he wants one of three new varieties of the fruit, developed in the Top End, to be named after the Melbourne-born star.

“She is the princess of pop and just like royalty it would be fitting to have a Territory icon named after her,” Vatskalis told the ABC.

The mangoes, which have been developed over 16 years, are expected to be available to consumers by the end of 2012.

  1. Love it! Sweet cheeks. This guy should be PM. Then he could give other icons interesting names instead of naming them after boring dead people that aren’t even glamorous.
