Giorgio Armani: Gay men shouldn’t “dress homosexual”

IN a recent interview with the Sunday Times Magazine, fashion designer Giorgio Armani has criticised gay men for dressing “homosexual”.

“A homosexual man is a man 100 per cent. He does not need to dress homosexual,” Armani was quoted as saying.

“When homosexuality is exhibited to the extreme – to say, ‘ah, you know I’m homosexual’ – that has nothing to do with me. A man has to be a man.”

Armani also took the opportunity in the interview to share his views on the male physique where he said: “I don’t like muscle boy. Not too much gym… I like somebody healthy, somebody solid, who looks after his body but doesn’t use his muscles too much.”

His views appear to contradict some of his brand’s advertising:

While Armani has never denied being a gay man, he has never admitted to it either, apart from an except in a 2000 interview with Vanity Fair.

“I have had women in my life. And sometimes men,” he said at the time.

“But you know very well that to do this work one must have a free mind.”

  1. Gee whizz this sounds like the Muslim cleric Taj El-Din Hilaly 10 years ago saying and quoting: “If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it … whose fault is it, the cats’ or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem. If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred.”
