ACON encourages safer house parties

ACON has launched a new website aimed at people consuming alcohol or drugs at home, just in time for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. The site, www.partyingathome.acon.org.au, provides detailed information on how to reduce the health risks of overindulging at private parties.

“More people are choosing to take drugs at home,” ACON’s Nicky Bath said. “This may be because of the increased police and security presence in clubs, on the streets and at events. This trend is leading to more and more occasions of people overdosing.

“This new website is designed to help people understand the risks associated with partying at home and minimise those risks.”

The site includes advice on avoiding and dealing with overdoses, safe-sex tips and the legal responsibilities of those hosting house parties.
