Dykes on Bikes give thanks

Sydney’s Dykes on Bikes (DOB) will again ride hard in the name of charity.

On Saturday, August 13 the good women from the annual Mardi Gras parade lead group will leather up and visit their regular supporters and nominated charities.

“This is an annual event where we visit businesses that have supported us throughout the year, as well as dropping in to our nominated charities to hand out money raised through our fundraising activities,” spokeswoman Lyn Doherty said.

DOB won the inaugural Deck the Balls Christmas tree decorating competition organised by Sydney Star Observer and supported by Domayne Alexandria.

“This has allowed us to not only donate vouchers to our charities, but also raise funds for them through raffles and other activites,” Doherty said.

“This year we’ll deliver a cheque for $1000 and a $1000 Domayne voucher to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service. We have recognised the important work done by SGLCS and chosen them as the major charity for the last couple of years.

“We’ll also hand over another $1000 Domayne Alexandria voucher to Camp Goodtime and a $1000 cheque to Monika’s Doggie Rescue to assist with their efforts to find homes for abandoned furry four-legged friends.”

As well, DOB will drop by their Mardi Gras helpers at Sydney Motorcycle Wreckers.

  1. Great, but I hope they do it either before or after the marriage equality rally. It’s the seven-year anniversary of the Labor/Liberal declaration of “war on equality.”
