Funding call for HIV groups

Charity and not-for-profit organisations that deal with HIV/AIDS are being encouraged to apply for funding from the World AIDS Day Dinner Fund.

The dinner, held on December 1 each year in Sydney to acknowledge World AIDS Day, is expected to raise more than $120,000 this year.

The World AIDS Day Dinner was launched in 2010 to raise money for HIV/AIDS charities in Australia. The crowd of 300 raised money for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation and St Vincent’s Hospital.

The World AIDS Day Dinner is the major fundraiser for the World AIDS Day Dinner Fund established this year. Any charity can apply for funds from the fund, as long as it is HIV/AIDS-related.

This year, founder and artistic director Eric Nair has moved the dinner to Paddington Town Hall with the intention of attracting 500 people and raising more than $100,000 to support HIV/AIDS charities.

“We are so proud to be opening applications to the public and having a direct hand in helping the estimated 20,000 Australians living with HIV/AIDS lead better lives,” Nair said. “The charities do not need to be large or well known, they just need to demonstrate that they will make the lives of people with HIV/AIDS easier and richer.”

Email [email protected] for an application form and to submit completed applications. Applications can also be sent to 8 Myrtle St, Leichhardt NSW 2040.

Applications close on October 1.
