In the swim at Mardi Gras
A former Mardi Gras favourite will return in style this weekend when Victoria Park hosts a new-look Pool Party on Saturday 24 February.
As many as 1,000 revellers are expected to slip into the water from 7pm, as DJs Shigeki and Jayson Forbes play live. Also in the entertainment line-up is drag diva Shelley Legs Diamond, who will lead 20 dancers in a high-camp show about a group of gays and lesbians who run into trouble at sea.
New Mardi Gras revived the Pool Party after a website survey last year called for its return. The organisation has not held the event since forming in late 2002.
We think it’s a great, fun event so we brought it back, New Mardi Gras chair Marcus Bourget said.
Tickets for the Pool Party cost $40 or $37 for New Mardi Gras members, plus booking fee. Book at the New Mardi Gras website.
The Pool Party is an alcohol- and glass-free event. Food and other drinks will be sold on the night.
