Mile High

Mile High

It certainly isn’t high art and won’t be remembered as one of the great classics of British TV production, but what the very campy TV series Mile High offers is one of the most entertaining, free-wheeling comedy-drama-adventure series of recent years.

Part of the charm of Mile High is it never takes itself too seriously, the storylines move at a rate of knots and the cast strike all the right chords as they tackle their roles of the bed-hopping, drug-taking, booze-swilling, and love-seeking cabin crew of cheap holiday airline, Fresh.

Never have the skyways appeared so much fun, nor so totally unprofessional and incompetent, as the various Fresh cabin crews shuttle passengers from the UK to a variety of European destinations, always managing to get involved in some illegal scam or passing out after a clubbing-induced psychosis.

Apart from the high-camp antics of the hedonistic sluts who will go to any length to have a good time, there is a decidedly gay bent to the storylines, with senior flight attendant Will in love with straight new recruit Marco and prepared to do anything to get him into bed.

In the meantime, Will is prepared to shag just about anyone else who is around as well as snort and swill down anything that looks remotely illegal.

Adam Sinclair as Will and Jo-Anne Knowles as arch-bitch purser Janis steal the show, but it is the outrageous plots involving the flight crew’s endless whining about their destination schedules, poor pay and accidentally getting involved in dramas like prostitution and porn that keep the whole series flying.

Only two seasons of Mile High were produced, and this new four-disc boxed set contains the complete first season and offers fun and compelling summer viewing.
