Moutou leaving Twenty10

Well known community identity David Moutou is leaving Twenty10 after five years of service as the organisation’s development manager.

Moutou said he would miss Twenty10’s clients and co-workers and taking part in the organisation’s annual Mardi Gras entry.

“I will miss the chance to learn so much from the young people who come to Twenty10 and my colleagues,” he told the Star Observer.

“I have learnt so much about gender identity and sexuality as experienced by young people today, and what it means to be a client-centred worker.

“I’ll also miss the Twenty10 Mardi Gras float. It is great to share the march with young people experiencing it all for the first time.”

Moutou said he was moving on to work for a local council in the area of small grants.

“I will be working in local government in western Sydney, helping to resource local groups to create liveable, healthy and diverse communities,” Moutou said.

“It is the type of work I have wanted to be doing for a long time.”

However, Moutou will remain in his other GLBTI community role — chair of the Aurora Group, an office he has held since November 2009.

Twenty10 managing director Rebecca Reynolds thanked Moutou for his service and wished him the best on behalf of the organisation.

“We’re so delighted that he’s moving into an area that he’s so passionate about and which he’s been studying towards consistently for the last two years,” she said.

“From an internal perspective we’re going to miss him incredibly — he’s very lively and a lot of fun and has been around for quite a long time so he’s quite a calming presence, but we wish him all the best and all good things because of all the good things he’s done for us.”

Reynolds said Twenty10 had already found a new organisational development manager in Scarlet Burroughs, but as Moutou’s responsibilities had grown beyond that role in his time with the organisation, those tasks would be taken up by a number of staff members.
