The Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD) has launched a new drugs and alcohol website filled with inspirational stories to encourage others to overcome their substance abuse problems.

It is hoped the new initiative will give those battling substance abuse problems some insight into the struggles others have faced as well as providing some guidance for those attempting to quit.

ANCD executive director Gino Vumbaca said there is an array of stories through which people will realise they are not alone.

This project is an Australian first. It’s all about the positives. It’s all about inspiring others, Vumbaca said.

There is a view in society that you cannot get out of the trap of substance abuse. That’s just not true -” thousands of people around the nation have become clean or sober and disproved that idea.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon has praised the concept for its potential to inspire others to turn their lives around.

Positive stories has been developed to clearly demonstrate that help is available and that it
is possible to become drug-free, she said.

The government is committed to tackling drug and alcohol abuse and hopefully this project can play a part in helping us to meet the challenge.

People who are looking for inspiration in their journey to sobriety as well as those who have already beaten their addiction are being encouraged to head to the website and share their stories.
