Rose blooms at Erskineville

One of the gay and lesbian community’s favourite gay and lesbian meeting spots, the Rose of Australia Hotel, picked up a major award last week.
The Rose, on Erskineville Rd, took out top honours at the James Squire Food and Beer Matching event.
The competition, judged by anonymous diners from Restaurant and Catering NSW, assessed the quality of the food, its innovation and passion and the venue.
Restaurant Balzac’s chef and owner, Matthew Kemp, who jointly chaired the judging panel, said the competition was about discovering new heights of flavour and pushing boundaries.
We are looking for innovative, flavoursome dishes to match the distinctive range of James Squire beers, he said. The Rose’s win serves to highlight the exceptional cuisine on offer at this much-loved local pub.
