Sydney Star Observer this week welcomed a new reporter to its ranks, Cara Davis.

For the past three years, Davis has worked across a smattering of Sydney-based newspapers – reporting on politics, crime, arts and the law.

Committed to non-discrimination, Davis said she was thrilled to be joining the team at Sydney Star Observer.

“After eight Mardi Gras parties, 10 Sleaze Balls, five Prides and seven Harbour parties, I felt that I was well qualified for this position,” she said.

“I am now in semi-retirement from the party scene, at the ripe old age of 28.

“But on a serious note, I am fiercely passionate about issues pertaining to the gay and lesbian community and I will do my utmost to give them a voice in the wider Australian community.”

Despite her previous unwavering dedication to her misspent youth, Davis managed to notch up degrees in fine arts, journalism and communications.

A self-confessed journalism junkie, Davis spends her “holidays” writing news stories.

“Last year I spent a week in a remote Aboriginal community on the north-east Arnhem Land escarpment, where I reported on an indigenous cultural festival,” she said.

“This year I tried to have a proper holiday in Thailand, but it backfired when I was compelled to interview local women and write a story about sustainable communities post-tsunami.”

Cara’s email address is [email protected] or phone her on 8263 0510.
