West not lost as venue found

Western Sydney’s GLBT community suffered a blow by losing a venue for its Heaven Social Group twice in the last few months.

But from February next year the Northmead Bowling Club has offered to host the entertainment and social gathering every two months.

The club has been extremely supportive throughout the negotiations, and the venue itself is a corker with its very own function room entrance, bar, stage and separate toilets, Heaven coordinator Beverly Buttercup said.

We would like to say a big -˜thank you’ to you all, especially our sponsor Tim for Acacia’s Catering, for supporting us over the last few months as we tried and tried to find a new venue.

The first gathering in the new digs will take place on Saturday 7 February from 8:30pm, featuring shows from a new drag collaboration called the Westie Divas, including Buttercup, Gracie Lou, Lola del Arte, and Sue Pernatural. Planned guests include Ida Slapda, Ophelia Shift and Melicious D’amage.

The group had originally agreed to take the gatherings to Parramatta Gold Club, but the deal broke down at the 11th hour over a $500 security fee further to the $500 booking fee.

Before that, the group met for drag shows at the Moorebank Sports Club.
