Young artists on show

An exhibition of artwork by young gay and lesbian artists called MISH MASH will feature at Twenty10 from Saturday 6 October till Sunday 14 October.
The small show hopes to bring exposure to talented and young GLBT artists, as well as highlight the services provided by Twenty10.
Coordinator and artist Raymond Haber said the exhibition embraces and emphasises the potential of young, local GLBT talent.
“The MISH MASH exhibition explores and celebrates what it means to exist among the straight world. It’s something for anyone who is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, as well as their families, friends, and supporters,” he said.
MISH MASH is something that is meant to inspire the creative streak in anybody – not just young people. It’s also an exhibition that will express a personal understanding of GLBT culture, from the people who essentially create it.”
Photography will be the most popular form of art displayed but other works include sculptures, digitally manipulated images, and a live performance during the opening night.
“We’re quite content with the submissions we received. To begin with, we were after just about anything creative and vibrant,” Haber said.
“This exhibition, though small, provides the artists of MISH MASH with the opportunity to sell their work directly to the audience. For artists who are unknown, or emerging, the opportunity to both sell and display doesn’t come around very often.”
