Tourism body reports good news

There was good news from the not-for-profit Gay and Lesbian Tourism Australia (GALTA) annual general meeting at Surfers Paradise. Members were told the organisation is in a positive financial position and is proactively engaging in partnerships with regional and national tourism organisations.

Managing director Rod Stringer was unopposed and re-elected in his current role. New board members are Tony Filippi and Geoffrey Pfitzner. All other directorial roles remain unchanged.

Stringer said the board plans a robust 12 months which includes attending travel expos, launching a new website, aiming to increase GALTA’s membership base and enhancing their client bank.

“This will be achieved through networking and promotional activities through which GALTA aims to provide its members with unparalleled exposure to gay and lesbian travellers,” he said.

Coinciding with the AGM, GALTA announced a historic partnership with the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association. The collaboration will deliver benefits such as direct free access to IGLTA’s worldwide membership base and site.

The GALTA website receives more than 1.3 million hits annually. Search engine results rank it in the top five for gay and lesbian tourism-related categories.
