Views sought on rights review

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission is urging Victorians to have their say in the review of the Charter of Human Rights.

The review, announced by Victorian Attorney-General Robert Clark in April, will look at options for reform or improvements to the Charter.

Commissioner Dr Helen Szoke said she welcomed the chance for all Victorians to have their say about the Charter.

“The last four years in Victoria prove that a human rights-based approach leads to fairer and more equitable government services and policies,” Szoke said.

The Commission has uncovered many examples of the Charter being used by Victorians to hold government accountable, and to encourage government bodies to rethink service delivery, review policies and change practices.

Szoke said the public’s rights are better protected with legally binding rights that can be independently upheld and enforced by bodies such as courts and tribunals.

  1. In 1995, the current Liberal Party Christian Fundamentalist Attorney-General said of homosexuality to parliament, “I believe homosexual practices form a destructive way of life, destructive to the individual and destructive also to other individuals who are brought into that way of life. I suppose it is most readily demonstrable at a physical level; it is a physical fact that the human body is not designed for many homosexual practices and it is clear that physical problems follow from those practices.” Mr Clark went on to quote a student medical text stating that homosexual male pedophiles commonly reported molesting hundreds of victims, while heterosexual pedophiles “molest only a few”. 2. Liberal Christian Fundamentalist Robert Clark, is using the review to repeal more laws and protections GLBTI people currently enjoy in Victoria. He is trying to wind back the clock to 1938.

We are lucky he does not have an army, as I have no doubt he would have us sent to the Gas chambers again, in another time in history.

With a history of making extrodinary human rights abuses of GLBTI people, such as the right to work freely, make no mistake what this tool is up to.

The Victorian Liberal/National party have knifed those that voted for them in the election. They are throffing at the mouth to do more damage to our community. They are exlcuding us from billions of dollars in government services, they are denying us jobs, and now they are having a “review” of charter that gives us protections from utter bastards like them.
