Openly gay Nashville country music star Mary Gauthier will conduct a songwriting seminar at Sydney’s JMC Academy in Sydney this Sunday, December 5. The singer-songwriter, in town as part of her national tour, is famed for the raw, confessional nature of her lyrics – her stunning latest album The Foundling is a heartbreaking song cycle about her experiences as an adopted child and her unsuccessful later attempts to build a relationship with her birth mother.

Referring to great songwriters as “truth tellers,” Mary will teach students how to embed a little piece of themselves into every song to create narrative, mood and harmony.
