Up and at them

Up and at them

The Harbour City Wrestling Club (HCWC) will hold a three-day beginners workshop for wannabe wrestlers at the end of the month.
This introduction to the sport will cover the basic rules of freestyle wrestling as well as examining the rudimentary moves of the sport.
Our workshop is intended to take someone off the street and bring them to the point where they feel confident enough to engage an opponent in the sport of Olympic freestyle wrestling at a novice level, said HCWC president Barry Webb.
The beauty of it is that you will pick up along the way some advanced wrestling skills favoured by the particular coach instructor.
The club aims to attract permanent members and get a team together for the Gay Games next year in Cologne and the Mardi Gras tournament.
While the club didn’t operate in 2008, Webb assures that HCWC is back on its feet.
It’s taken a long time to get this workshop together. Wrestling is a small sport in Australia, not to mention in the gay community, he said.
Starting on Sunday, August 23, the workshop costs $90 and participants will receive a HCWC Wrestlers Kit, which includes a club T-shirt, singlet, subscription to Sweat and a voucher to attend a training session.
