Gay guru visiting Sydney

Author Andrew Harvey, who collaborated with Sogyal Rinpoche and Patrick Gaffney in writing The Tibetan Book of the Living and Dying, is holding a special event for the LGBTI community during his speaking tour of Australia.

Harvey has written more than 30 books on spirituality and has been named one of Watkins Mind Body Spirit magazine’s 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People.

Harvey is also gay and wrote the Lambda Literary Award-nominated The Essential Gay Mystics. The book profiles same-sex attracted spiritual and philosophical thinkers throughout history, from Greek philosophers to Sufi mystics through to the modern age.

Harvey will discuss the relationship between spirituality and sexuality, the wounds that the LGBTI community has suffered at the hands of organised religion, and the opportunity to use spiritual experiences to recover a sense of wholeness, compassion and passion.

Harvey will speak on Wednesday, May 30, 7-9pm in the ACON Café, 414 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills. Tickets are $25.
