Proud business winners announced

PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has taken out the annual title for Australia’s most gay friendly employer.

The company accepted the award at the Pride In Diversity awards luncheon in Sydney on International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) yesterday.

PwC ranked number one in an index of Australia’s top ten organisations supporting LGBT people.

The company was also named employer of the year for its Glee@PwC group – an LGBT employee networking group.

The 2012 list of the top ten included:

1. PriceWaterhouseCoopers
2. KPMG
3. IMB Australia
4. Accenture Australia
5. Goldman Sachs
6. Lend Lease
7. Macquarie University and the University of Western Australia (equal 7th)
9. Australian Federal Police
10. Chevron Australia

Pride in Diversity director Dawn Hough said the awards put a spotlight on businesses making a difference for LGBT employees.

Former High Court judge Michael Kirby and actor Jacki Weaver congratulated the winners.

“It’s important that we don’t underestimate the impact that discrimination and homophobic bullying has on individuals both physically and emotionally, and I commend all Pride In Diversity members and index participants for their commitment to this areas of workplace diversity practice,” Kirby said.

Pride In Diversity has been developed by ACON.
